Amplifier Ventures Adds Peter Horan as Venture Advisor

January 20, 2011

Addition of experienced entrepreneur broadens Amplifier’s investment team to include Silicon Valley-based expertise

McLean, Virginia (PRWEB) January 18, 2011

Amplifier Ventures, an early-stage venture capital fund, and Amplifier Network, a provider of educational content for entrepreneurs, today announced the addition of Peter Horan as a Venture Advisor. Mr. Horan, a nationally-known Chairman and CEO of leading social media, advertising and communications companies, will join Amplifier’s other Venture Advisors, Loren Burnett, Michael Dering and Rich Moore. Mr. Horan expands Amplifier’s existing expertise in new media, as reflected in its seeding of Bright Hub, a rapidly growing expert content site, and Cardstar, the leading mobile loyalty company in mobile.

Amplifier’s Venture Advisors work with Jonathan Aberman, Amplifier’s Managing Director, in all aspects of Amplifier’s activities. Most recently, Mr. Horan had been successfully working as an advisor to Bright Hub. By joining the Amplifier team as a Venture Advisor, he is expanding his relationship with Amplifier to include its other existing portfolio companies, as well as its current group of participants in the Amplifier Business Accelerator Program.

Mr. Horan has had a career of success as the CEO and Chairman of market leading companies, and has generated more than $700 million in value for stockholders as a leader of businesses over the last seven years. He is currently Chairman of Goodmail Systems and Halogen Network. Since 2003 he has been CEO of IAC Media and Advertising, AllBusiness.com, About.com and DevX.com. He previously was part of the executive team of International Data Group.

“Adding Peter to our team will let us expand our relationships further into the Valley,” said Jonathan Aberman, Managing Director of Amplifier Ventures. “Having visibility into the trends of company formation, financing and exits in the Valley will help our companies in the Mid-Atlantic. We have always sought to bridge the gap between the two regions, and having Peter as part of our team will allow us to bring broad expertise and perspectives to our companies and entrepreneurs.”

“I’ve been working with Amplifier for a number of years,” said Horan. “They are very well positioned in Washington, DC and have the right approach to starting companies and working with experienced founders. They occupy a unique position in that market. There is a very interesting opportunity here for us to bring a bit of Silicon Valley to companies and entrepreneurs in the Mid-Atlantic, but also there will be opportunities for us to bring a very experienced team of advisors who “get it” to selective opportunities in the Valley and NY. This is going to be great.”
