January 20, 2011

Ashburn, Va. (Vocus/PRWEB) January 18, 2011

The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is pleased to announce the release of PRORAGIS (Park and Recreation Operating Ratio and Geographic Information System), a national online database and GIS-mapping system for public park and recreation operations and facilities in the U.S.

PRORAGIS is a merger of NRPA’s Operating Ratio Study for public park and recreation agencies and recently-completed NRPA GIS Model (GIS-portion of PRORAGIS available in late Spring 2011). The result is a new, searchable online database, which combines annual snapshots of data submitted by departments for jurisdiction, organization, finances, resources, staffing and programs with online mapping capabilities for parks, trails and facilities. Now, with PRORAGIS, departments can create profiles and acquire detailed information in order to benchmark themselves with other departments locally, and in the U.S.

Specific capabilities with PRORAGIS include: benchmarking and peer reviews, developing budget justifications, identifying best practices, master planning, feasibility studies, market research, revenue enhancement and events promotion.

“As America faces serious financial crises, it’s imperative that park and recreation agencies have the necessary tools to justify funding requests and to create viable master plans,” said Barbara Tulipane, CEO of NRPA. “PRORAGIS will provide valuable assistance to agencies as they strive for increased public support.”

Any park and recreation agency in the U.S. can create a PRORAGIS profile, and NRPA encourages departments to get started at http://www.nrpaproragis.org. The PRORAGIS reporting functions are free to all NRPA members and are available for a fee to non-member agencies.

The National Recreation and Park Association is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing park, recreation and conservation efforts that enhance quality of life for all people. Through its network of 20,000 recreation and park professionals and citizens, NRPA encourages the promotion of healthy lifestyles, recreation initiatives, and conservation of natural and cultural resources.
