San Diego-based Tech Startup OpenCandy to Host Hackathon Event
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — OpenCandy, a San Diego-based provider of technology and business solutions to help software developers reach new users and increase their revenue, today announced Hackathon SD, to take place in downtown San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter on February 18th and 19th.
On a typical Friday evening in San Diego, the Gaslamp hosts foodies, movie goers and bar patrons. On the weekend of February 18th, the Gaslamp will play host to an entirely different type of event. Hackathon SD will bring together creative software developers, web developers and designers from across Southern California to work collaboratively on projects of their choosing in a 23-hour marathon of creativity and cooperative development.
“There aren’t a lot of chances for developers in San Diego to meet one another or work cooperatively,” said Adrian Bourke, Co-founder and Director of Product Management for OpenCandy. “With Hackathon SD, we’re creating a place for local developers and designers to collaborate on projects in a fun, social setting. Not only do we expect to see some innovative hacks, we hope the connections made will be long-lasting and fruitful.”
The Hackathon will kick off at 7 pm on Friday, continuing through the night and the following day before wrapping up at 9:30 pm on Saturday with prizes and recognition for the top hackers as well as gifts for all participants. OpenCandy will be providing food and drinks to keep participants coding throughout the 23-hour duration of the hack.
