Lightspeed Systems Brings Safe Communication to K-12 Schools with Campus Mail

February 9, 2011

Campus Mail gives students and teachers a safe, monitored solution for email and private file storage

Bakersfield, CA (PRWEB) February 8, 2011

At TCEA 2011, Lightspeed Systems is announcing the newest addition to its suite of solutions for K-12 schools: Campus Mail. The hosted Campus Mail solution promotes communication between students, teachers, staff, and parents with safe, monitored email accounts and provides file storage in the cloud.

Many states have technology standards (including the Texas TEKS) that make applied use of electronic communication, such as email, a core skill. As districts open communication avenues and online learning opportunities, they must also ensure those communications remain safe and appropriate.

Campus Mail relies on allow lists, standard and custom reporting, profanity interception, virus scanning, spam filtering, content scanning, and skin-tone analysis to ensure that communication remains safe. Standard reports alert IT staff to suspicious activity, uploaded files, and suspicious files. In addition, all messages are archived in compliance with eDiscovery and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure requirements.

Unlimited private file storage gives users an easy and secure way to transfer files, from home to school or from one computer to another, without the risk of virus spread inherent in removable media like thumb drives.

Campus Mail is available as a standalone solution or integrated with My Big Campus, the Lightspeed platform for collaboration and blended learning.

Lightspeed CEO Joel Heinrichs explains, “My Big Campus offers a closed messaging platform, but we saw that districts needed the ability to communicate with a wider group. Campus Mail gives students the benefits of communication with a wider circle””with parents, prospective colleges, students in other districts, club leaders, and more; and it has all the safety features and monitoring necessary in a K-12 environment.”

In addition to Campus Mail, the other products in the Lightspeed product provide the functionality, safety, and security IT staff need, while also giving educators and students the educational benefits of access to resources and information online. The Lightspeed Web Filter includes features like the new Web Zones, to allow teachers to open or restrict filtering access for a specific class or lesson; and the Educational Video Library, for safe access to approved YouTube Videos. My Big Campus provides Web 2.0-style collaboration within a safe, monitored environment.
