Building Stalls at Walgreens Site

NEWS BRIEFS
The search for drainage and fiber- optic lines has delayed the start of construction on the Edgewood Walgreens store.
"It's not a standard site," said Scot McLelland with Wilger Enterprises Inc., the earth-moving contractor for the job.
At that time McLelland expressed optimism that despite grade and utility problems the project would proceed on schedule. Now he says there's no way to be certain when construction will actually be completed.
Even attempts to prepare the site for a septic system failed as inspectors for the New Mexico Environment Department refused to approve a permit for the project, said Karen Mahalick, Edgewood's planning and zoning administrator. Mahalick was also waiting for the engineer, Mark Goodwin and Associates, to submit redesigned plans that resolve the site's drainage issues.
To accommodate access and existing drainage and fiber optic lines crossing the Walgreens property, the entire lot might have to be raised as much as 2 feet, Mahalick said.
