Police close ports in Helsinki following report of explosives
HELSINKI, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Finnish police temporarily closed two ports in Helsinki late Saturday night after they received a report that a truck aboard a passenger ship was loaded with explosives.
"We closed the ports towards 9:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) and conducted searches which revealed nothing," police spokesman Ken Hanniken said.
After receiving a call which said an Estonian truck traveling to Helsinki could be carrying explosives, the police shut down the the southern and western ports in the capital and checked dozens of trucks on the ferries entering the two ports.
The southern port was reopened after the inspection, according to the spokesman.
