NEW YORK (AP) -- Fire spread to four floors of the new AOL Time Warner headquarters Tuesday, a complex topped by two 80-story glass towers still under construction near the southwest corner of Central Park.
An elevator mechanic suffered minor injuries, and several firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously hurt, authorities said.
Fire officials said the blaze was not considered suspicious. And Mary Costello, a spokeswoman for construction company Bovis Lend Lease, said it shouldn't delay the scheduled opening this summer and fall of several parts of the complex.
The fire started in an equipment shed on one of the floors at about 12:30 a.m. and spread, fire department spokesman Frank Gribbon said.
The floors damaged, four through seven, are meant to house Lincoln Center's jazz programs and retail space, Costello said.
AOL Time Warner's floors, eight through 13, were untouched, company spokeswoman Mia Carbonelle said.
The 2.1 million-square-foot complex on Columbus Circle will include a hotel, condominiums and shopping mall.
The complex, costing $1.7 billion, was criticized by some AOL Time Warner shareholders because of the company's plunging share price since the 2001 merger between America Online and Time Warner.
In 2002, AOL Time Warner lost $98.7 billion.
