With seamer Graham Onions the only member of the Durham side playing from Saturday's defeat at Essex, the hosts were out for 213.
The three batsmen with most first-class experience, Nicky Peng, Gavin Hamilton and Gary Pratt, mustered just 20 between them as the side slipped to 92 for six.
Bangladesh then brought on their substitute, Mushfiqur Rahman, and Australian Callum Thorp took a liking to his medium pace.
He took two for 50 and hit 52 off 41 balls.
While Steve Harmison was with England, there was no joy for his 19-year-old brother, Ben, as he was bowled first ball.
The visitors began with a first-wicket stand of 209, of which the captain made 132.
Neil Killeen took two wickets in two balls in the 44th over on his way to two for 41, but with leg-spinner David Barrick's five overs costing 41 the runs kept flowing.
Peng and James Lowe began the reply with a stand of 40 and Durham had to wait until the match was as good as lost before Thorp and Park achieved respectability.
