Cedar Point Communications Receives $15 Million in Funding Round Led By Focus Ventures

Posted on: Monday, 8 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

DERRY, N.H., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point Communications, Inc., the leader in integrated packet-based voice switching technologies for the cable industry, today announced that it has raised $15 million in additional financing. The financing was led by Focus Ventures and included participation from existing investors Ascent Venture Partners, Battery Ventures, Charles River Ventures, Comcast Interactive Capital, JP Morgan Partners, Motorola Ventures and STAR Ventures.

The financing will be used to support increased manufacturing, marketing and sales activities in conjunction with rapidly increasing demand from cable system operators in the Americas for Cedar Point's SAFARI C(Cubed) Multimedia Switching System. In addition, the capital will fund Cedar Point's increasing activities in Europe and elsewhere.

"We invested in Cedar Point because their innovative approach has resulted in a significant number of customer wins," said Kevin McQuillan, general partner of Focus Ventures. "By integrating all of the components of distributed VoIP architectures into one unit, Cedar Point has created a differentiated product that has been selected for use by many of the major U.S. and Latin American cable system operators."

SAFARI C(Cubed) is the only totally integrated carrier class VoIP switch that incorporates -- at no additional cost -- all of the components that make up the PacketCable(TM) voice switching infrastructure, eliminating the need for operators to purchase, maintain, upgrade and regression test separate call management servers, media gateways, record keeping servers, announcement servers, signaling gateways, Ethernet switches and CALEA servers.

"Cable system operators in this country and abroad are accelerating the pace of voice deployments," said Andy Paff, president and chief executive officer of Cedar Point Communications. "This funding further expands our ability to provide the simple, cost-effective, scalable solutions that enable current and future customers to capitalize on the revenue-generating potential of cable telephony services."

Designed to accommodate not only current voice switching needs but also the anticipated migration to video telephony and multimedia services, the PacketCable(TM)-qualified SAFARI C(Cubed) provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for cable operators who offer telephony services, while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.
