Posted on: Monday, 8 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

LVL7 Systems, Inc., the leading provider of production-ready networking software to communication system manufacturers around the world, has named Walter P. Scott as its vice president of Engineering. Scott comes to LVL7 after more than five years with Alcatel in the U.S., most recently as Senior Vice President of Engineering for the company's Network Infrastructure Business Unit.

As head of Engineering for LVL7, Scott will handle all software development, design services, test and quality assurance operations, and customer support activities. His geographic span of responsibility covers development engineers and technical support personnel based at the North Carolina headquarters, a design center in Bloomington, MN, and the company's development center subsidiary, LVL7 Systems Private Limited, in Hyderabad, India.

"Walter Scott comes to LVL7 at an exciting time of rapid growth and new development initiatives," said Al Bender, LVL7 CEO. "His wealth of Ethernet product experience and leadership skills will be critical as the company takes on more custom-design projects, expands its portfolio to address chassis-based systems, IPv6 capabilities, and wireless LAN offerings, and scales its multiple development sites to handle this growth. Wally will quickly become a key contributor in maintaining LVL7's leadership position as OEMs place greater reliance on Production-Ready Networking Software."

At Alcatel, Scott led all engineering and development activities for the company's enterprise data networking product family. His responsibilities included L2/L3/L4 software development, hardware and ASIC integration, network management and security software, system testing, and directing outsource suppliers.

Prior to his relationship with Alcatel, Scott enjoyed a 10-year career with Cabletron Systems, leading Software Engineering and architecture efforts for both applications and systems involving VLANs, network management, security and service provisioning. Scott began his career in the high-tech industry as a software engineer with Wang Laboratories working on software design and development for networking products.

A holder of nine patents covering various network policy, configuration, and management developments, Scott is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, MA, with a degree in Mathematics.
