GovernmentAuctions.org Supports Relief Efforts for Japanese Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Contamination Victims via Online Fundraising
In the aftermath of the destructive earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011, GovernmentAuctions.org supports Mercy Corps’ relief efforts by setting up an online fundraising site to benefit the Japanese people in shock.
Great Neck, NY (PRWEB) March 21, 2011
In light of the March 11 ultra-destructive earthquake and tsunami that claimed many lives in Japan, and the effects of which still continue to endanger the country, seized and surplus property portal GovernmentAuctions.org (http://www.governmentauctions.org) is supporting Mercy Corps’ relief efforts through an Internet fundraising site located at http://www.mercycorps.org/fundraising/governmentauctionsorg. Donations will be used to meet immediate and longer-term needs of families affected by this devastating disaster.
The massive earthquake, which reached a magnitude of 9.0 on the Richter scale, has taken an extremely negative toll on the Japanese economy, people, and morale of the country, and GovernmentAuctions.org was looking to aid in some way in the recovery effort. “Last week, global humanitarian agency Mercy Corps, sent its first emergency responder into Japan’s earthquake zone,” says GovernmentAuctions.org CEO Ian Aronovich. “With over 5,000 people dead and other 8,000 people missing, the Japanese people have a long road ahead of them”” and helping organizations like Mercy Corps raise funds is the least we could do to help the Japanese people get back on their feet.”
According to Mercy Corps, their partner, Peace Winds, is continuing to deliver emergency supplies — including tents, blankets, instant rice and other foodstuffs — to families evacuated from homes in the tsunami-devastated city of Kesennuma.
“Along with being an organization that continues to provide help where needed, Mercy Corps’ proven track record in Haiti (following the 2010 Earthquake), and in New Orleans (following Hurricane Katrina) is why we chose to partner with them again,” Aronovich said, referring to GovernmentAuctions.org’s previous online fundraising drive on Mercy Corps’ website, in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti.
The earthquake and tsunami in Japan left massive amounts of physical and emotional damage to the country and people of Japan and has the added element of dangerous radiation contamination risk from leaks at Japan’s nuclear plants. “There is much to be done in this regard, and it will take years of relief for Japan to fully recover from this disaster,” said Aronovich, “but any amount of money that can be donated now will go a long way to help.”
You can help GovernmentAuctions.org’s fundraising efforts for Mercy Corps’ Japan earthquake response fund by donating at: http://www.mercycorps.org/fundraising/governmentauctionsorg. Your (fully tax-deductible) donation will be going to a very worthy humanitarian cause.
GovernmentAuctions.org is also committing itself to match any donations that are made by its employees or affiliates dollar-for-dollar until the end of the month.
“We are committed to helping the people of Japan get back on their collective feet,” said Aronovich. “We all have the ability to help these people survive and recover from this terrible disaster. With help from donors like our employees, affiliates, and others, I know we can make a siezeable difference for the people of Japan.”
