HP Ranked No. 1 in Worldwide Market Share for Distributed System Management Software

HP (NYSE:HPQ)(Nasdaq:HPQ) today announced that it is the worldwide market share leader in distributed system management software for 2004, according to a recent IDC market report.(1)

According to the IDC study, HP led the worldwide distributed system management software market category in 2004 with 13.3 percent revenue share. HP's revenue grew 14.9 percent in this market for 2004, outpacing the overall one-year growth of 8 percent for the category and nearly doubling the revenue growth of each of the next three closest competitors.

According to the IDC study, the worldwide distributed system management software market achieved revenue of $5.54 billion in 2004 and is forecast to grow to $8.99 billion in 2009, an increase of 62.3 percent for the period.

IDC defines the worldwide system management software market as "including those software tools that are routinely used in IT operations or by end users to manage system and application resources." IDC defines the distributed system management software as the portion of system management software used to manage systems and applications for distributed operating environments, principally UNIX(R), Windows(R) and Linux.

IDC's distributed system management software category includes HP OpenView products and solutions such as:

-- Performance management: OpenView Business Performance Insight, OpenView Performance, OpenView SOA Manager, OpenView Transaction Analyzer and OpenView Internet Services;

-- Change and configuration management: OpenView Configuration Management solutions using Radia;

-- Event automation: OpenView Operations for Windows, OpenView Operations for UNIX and OpenView Smart Plug-Ins;

-- Problem management: OpenView Service Desk and OpenView Service Desk Service Level Management module.
