Saga Holidays today announced it has acquired 500 acres of land on the original party Island of Ibiza. The purchase, part of a £50 million investment on the sun-kissed Balearic Island, is scheduled to complete development in 2014, and will see the launch of the Saga Holidays Pioneer Clubbers Village available exclusively to those aged 50 and over. As well as luxurious accommodation in exclusive poolside apartments and villas, the company has plans to create chill-out venues, a state of the art nightclub, central auditorium, cafes and bars in the exclusive village to create a complete clubbers village atmosphere.

The bold move is aimed at the Island’s original clubbers who, mostly in their early twenties at the time, are credited with starting Ibiza’s dance and club movement in the summer of 1987. As they turn 50, Saga Holidays will ensure that the guest list for part of the Island remains the exclusive domain of these pioneers entering their second coming of age.

CEO Susan Hooper said: “We always plan ahead and have evolved with our customers, so ensuring that part of the Island is kept aside for those that started the dance movement back in the late eighties is a natural move. This is an exclusively over-50s guest list reserved in advance for the original clubbers, now celebrating with Saga.”

The holiday company is setting up an Ibiza Pioneers Think Tank and will be inviting DJs Danny Rampling, Pete Tong and Paul Oakenfold, as well as MFC Management, the owners of the world famous Amnesia Nightclub, to join. The Think Tank will advise the Saga Holidays Executive Board on the key elements such as the right style villas, acoustics and lighting in the auditorium and nightclub as well as dining and chill-out beaches to cater specifically for the late 1980s Ibiza crowd.

Hooper added; “Danny, Pete and Paul were there at the beginning and are brilliantly placed to advise us on what their audiences will want. With the added experience of MFC Management assisting in this exciting new venture, we will ensure that a very specific mood, era and shared experience are reflected in our Pioneer Clubbers Village.”

When it opens at the beginning of April 2014, those landing will be asked for ID for entry and given an Ibiza Pioneer wristband that grants over-50s access to the village and able to boast the top villas, old skool dance club nights, restaurants and post-club chill-out beaches.

Saga Holidays will be showcasing the new resort in their Unforgettable Experiences brochure and begin taking bookings in 2012.
