Ruckus Wireless Donates Three Complete 802.11n Wireless LANs to Deserving K-12 School Districts in “Back-to-School Wi-Fi Makeover” Contest

April 5, 2011

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Ruckus Wireless(TM) today kicked off a national promotional “Back-to-School Wi-Fi Makeover” contest that awards more than $150,000 in next generation Wi-Fi products and technology to three deserving K-12 school districts in the United States.

To be eligible, any valid K-12 school district is required to fill out a simple online nomination form at http://www.ruckuswireless.com/back_to_school. This includes providing a short YouTube video along with 500 words or less on why the school district deserves a free wireless LAN.

Winning school districts will be announced at the upcoming ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference in Philadelphia on June 29th.

A panel of four independent industry judges from T.H.E. Journal, the International Society for Technology in Education, Council of the Great City Schools and St. Vrain Valley School District will evaluate all submissions and select the winning school districts.

All nominees are eligible to win one of three wireless LANs to be awarded:

  • 50- AP dual-band 802.11n network with WLAN controller, configuration and full installation
  • 25-AP dual-band 802.11n with WLAN controller
  • 12-AP dual-band 802.11n with WLAN controller

With no cost to enter, the contest runs through June 15, 2011. The three winners will be announced June 29 at the ISTE 2011 conference in Philadelphia.

“School districts across the country want better Wi-Fi and we’re literally giving it to them,” said David Callisch, vice president of marketing for Ruckus Wireless. “Parents, teachers and students all recognize the profound benefits of using tablet computers, laptops, and other mobile gadgets in the classroom. Yet in order to make effective use of these devices, a reliable, robust Wi-Fi network is critical – and schools’ tightening budgets pose significant challenges. We’re hoping to make a difference for both kids and teachers.”

As school districts deal with the influx of wireless-only devices appearing on campus, the requirement for more pervasive and reliable wireless connectivity is exploding. Based on patented Smart Wi-Fi technology, the Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi system is quickly becoming the defacto standard for next generation wireless networking at school districts across the country.

Unlike conventional Wi-Fi technology, Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi is based on adaptive antenna array technology that focuses and steers Wi-Fi signals over the best signal path, automatically mitigating interference. This ensures unprecedented Wi-Fi reliability, the highest data rates and consistent performance at longer distances. The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi equipment has seen increased adoption in the education sector because of its reliable performance and ability to support large-scale mobile device usage that takes place in classrooms.
