Homeland Defense Applications, Commercial and Government Security Systems Operate Faster and More Efficiently With Digital Video Surveillance Technologies From BroadWare and BakBone

Posted on: Tuesday, 9 August 2005, 18:00 CDT

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- BroadWare Technologies, the leader in distributed video surveillance, has teamed with BakBone Software(TM) (TSX: BKB)(Pink Sheets: BKBO), a global provider of data protection software, to deliver the first integrated video surveillance and data recovery system for expediting real-time recovery of digital security camera streaming video. This unique surveillance and storage solution drives the availability of powerful yet economical video surveillance technologies over IP networks.

More details are available at: http://www.broadware.com/

Following the recent bombings in London and elevated security concerns on domestic public transit systems, pressure is building to address the critical need to capture, distribute, store and recover real-time video surveillance data. Traditional surveillance systems have been limited to closed-circuit television monitoring, manual security and proprietary VCR- and DVR-based solutions. BroadWare and BakBone have combined IP-based video surveillance, commodity architecture and networked storage technologies to enable widespread adoption of cost-effective, scalable video surveillance capabilities based on open standards.

"BroadWare and BakBone are offering our customers fully integrated systems that combine off-the-shelf video surveillance and storage components with affordable, open commodity hardware to streamline deployment," said Matt Graham, vice president of professional services for BroadWare Technologies. "This offers integrators and security-conscious commercial, government and military organizations the ability to easily integrate their choice of technologies in designing complete surveillance systems that evolve and scale as new technologies are introduced."

This integrated video surveillance and data recovery blends the BroadWare Media Platform (BMP) with BakBone's NetVault Virtual Disk Library (VDL) backup software for rapid, disk-based recovery of archived video surveillance footage. The ability to conduct near-instantaneous data restores is a dramatic improvement over the delays of sequential tape access and recovery. The combined BroadWare/Bakbone solution accelerates access to data and enables the consolidation of multiple video feeds onto one recording device while seamlessly scaling to provision new servers and manage tens to thousands of cameras.

"IP-based digital video surveillance integrated with highly scalable and cost-effective storage solutions with robust disk-based backup will ease some of the challenges of security breaches and threats throughout the transportation industry," said Robert Kusche, eServer Solutions Architect for rs-unix. "The combination of rs-unix's open systems expertise and best-in- class technology from BakBone and BroadWare allows us to offer one integrated solution that leverages separate areas of technology expertise."

Many modes of public transportation, including airports, railways, subways, buses, ports and highways have been slow to employ digital video surveillance systems because of price and complexity. Transportation is one of many industries with a critical need for integrated security and data recovery.

"BakBone is proud to partner with BroadWare, well-known for its commitment to open-systems development, in bringing this useful, cost-effective and wide- ranging application to market," said Mark Milford, senior vice president of worldwide sales for BakBone Software. "BakBone's ability to speed the recovery of data using advanced disk-based backup technology that allows point-in-time access to video images can mean the difference between identifying whether a threat is real or not, and in real-time containing or responding to that threat."
