“CTIA applauds the Chairman and Commissioners for taking concrete steps to address key issues affecting wireless broadband infrastructure deployment. Regarding pole attachments, CTIA commends the FCC for affirming wireless providers’ rights to attach to utility poles, including the tops of poles to enable greater signal coverage, and establishing timelines that should provide certainty to attachers and pole owners.

“In stressing the need to unlock greater efficiencies in rights-ofway and wireless facilities siting policies to speed broadband deployment, today’s Notice of Inquiry recognizes that work remains to improve wireless infrastructure buildout. This need was a key driver underlying CTIA’s request – granted by the Commission in 2009 – to set a reasonable ‘shot clock’ for local zoning authorities to act on siting applications.

“CTIA looks forward to working with the agency in its latest proceeding to improve policies for accelerating and expanding wireless broadband deployment.”
