Universal Security Instruments, Inc. Receives New Patent
OWINGS MILLS, Md., April 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Universal Security Instruments, Inc. (NYSE AMEX: UUU) is pleased to announce the issuance of U.S. Patent Number 7,893,825 titled Alarm Origination Latching System and Method issued on our new IoPhic(®) and Microprocessor (“M” Series) product line of smoke alarms. “This new patent represents the beginning of a period of innovation not just for our company; but, we believe, for the fire safety industry. We have developed new smoke alarm technologies and design features which, in our opinion, make conventional alarms obsolete. This is just one of 11 Patents for which USI has applied,” said Ron Lazarus, President of the Company’s USI ELECTRIC division.
In connection with the Company’s ongoing research into new smoke alarm sensing technology and enhanced product feature offerings, UNIVERSAL has applied to the U.S. and foreign patent offices for multiple patents related to this new sensing technology and product feature offerings. Furthermore, the Company has additional patent applications in process which it expects to file later this year.
“This patented feature enhances the ability of the user or servicing electrician to quickly locate the originating alarm in an integrated system using a proprietary audible signal rather than the current method of visual inspection. The issuance of our first patent on one of the new product features resulted from the research conducted by our Director of Engineering, Eric Gonzales, and his team. This allows us to provide a feature to our customers which, along with other new features, virtually eliminates nuisance alarms. Nuisance alarms are the leading reason given for disabled smoke alarms. Almost 50% of deaths attributed to fires were in homes without a functioning smoke alarm (Information from Center for Disease Control),” said Harvey Grossblatt, the Company’s Chief Executive Officer.
