A Historic Meditation & Yoga Event With The Art of Living Foundation, New Jersey

April 15, 2011

A Program to Relax, Refresh and Rejuvenate with Meditation in the Presence of H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Secaucus, NJ (PRWEB) April 14, 2011

On Saturday April 9th, The Art of Living Foundation, an international non-profit that offers stress reduction, meditation and self-development programs, hosted Meditation & Yoga 2011 (MY 2011) in the presence of spiritual leader and humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. The day-long program featured unique and informative sessions giving participants the skills to manage their mind and emotions, increase productivity, and bring balance into their lives. MY 2011 was held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center at 355 Plaza Drive in Secaucus, NJ.

The essence of this event was to impart a series of simple techniques for de-stressing through yoga, meditation and breath-work. The practices featured were also explained and contextualized through presentation of the ancient wisdom upon which they are based. It is widely known that the negative impact of stress in the lives of Americans is far-reaching. Over the course of the program, Sri Sri illuminated the ways in which one can mitigate the daily impact of various stressors. He emphasized that stress must be handled through both a philosophical understanding of its causes, as well as tangible strategies for increasing peace and contentment. Though we cannot eliminate all of the stress-causing agents in our lives, we can certainly equip ourselves to handle our own thoughts and behavior in a more effective manner. This is precisely the training MY 2011 provided to participants.

With approximately 3,000 people in attendance, the program brought together a diverse array of community members within New Jersey, as well as drawing attendees from surrounding states. Several local leaders and public figures were present as well, including the Mayor of Secaucus Michael Gonnelli. Mayor of Woodbridge John E. McCormac, Assembyman and Dy Speaker Upendra Chivukula.

Mayor of Secaucus Michael Gonnelli said, “Meeting His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I felt his presence and his aura. I have been practicing the meditation and breathing techniques that His Holiness taught and I already feel the benefits of stress reduction in my daily life. My daughter took the course with me and she also loved it.”

The overall feedback from participants has been tremendous. As summed up by one of the participants John “MY 2011 has been a transformative experience, the session with Sri Sri in particular was very inspiring and relaxing.”

The benefit to the community will extend well beyond the MY 2011 event day itself, as thousands of community members now have the impetus to live more fruitfully.
