U.S. Government's Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Approves Vyyo's 700 MHz Wireless Broadband Solution

Posted on: Wednesday, 10 August 2005, 09:02 CDT

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Vyyo Inc. , a global supplier of broadband access equipment and turn-key customized, private wireless network solutions, today announced that its end to end 700 MHz wireless broadband solution has been approved for purchase under the Rural Utilities Services' (RUS) Broadband Loan Program. The RUS Broadband Loan Program is designed specifically to help service providers deliver cost effective, high speed Internet access to underserved communities throughout rural America.

Vyyo's robust 700 MHz solution enables a cost effective model for service providers to deploy high speed Internet services over licensed wireless spectrum to consumers and businesses. Vyyo's V284 customer radio modem, based on the cable industry's DOCSIS(TM) standard, enables self-installation up to 10 miles from the company's V3000 wireless broadband hub for less than $250 per customer device.

The Vyyo wireless platform currently is being deployed by five telecommunications companies in rural America: Polar Communications of North Dakota, Redwood Telephone of Minnesota, Pioneer Telephone of Oklahoma, Pigeon Telephone of Michigan and IdeaOne of North Dakota. Each deployment covers thousands of square miles in challenging rural terrain.

"When you combine robust technology with innovative service providers, rural broadband is an opportunity, not a challenge," said Davidi Gilo, Chairman and CEO of Vyyo. "By qualifying our system for Broadband Loan Program funding, the Rural Utility Service is increasing the ability of us and our partners to bring the affordable high-speed access that unserved and underserved areas of the country need to be competitive in the broadband world."
