Delta Pilots Mull More Concessions

August 10, 2005

Atlanta’s Delta Air Lines pilots, who already have made $5 billion in salary concessions, are debating more givebacks to prevent an airline bankruptcy filing.

Air Line Pilots Association members appear uncertain whether another round of pay concessions could prevent Delta from bankruptcy, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday. But pilots could face yet more severe pay and benefit cuts if the nation’s No. 3 carrier files for protection from its creditors.

Any window of opportunity on concessions may be closing soon. Delta said it was talking with a new card processor to replace a pact with Visa USA Inc. and MasterCard International Inc.

The carrier’s current card-processing deal expires Aug. 29, and any new arrangement could drain the airline of needed cash.
