Aug. 10--FORT WORTH -- LKCM Radio Group, owner of the Ranch radio station that operates a studio in downtown Fort Worth, is under contract to buy KTFW, a rival country music station.
Gary Moss, president of M&M Broadcasters, owner of KTFW/92.1 FM, said Tuesday that an application has been filed with the Federal Communications Commission to transfer the station's license to LKCM Radio, a subsidiary of Luther King Capital Management, a Fort Worth investment group.
The application was filed in late July, and the process takes about 90 days, Moss said.
LKCM Radio took over the station's operations Aug. 1. Moss said he will be a consultant until the deal closes.
Moss said the deal "came about and happened real quick. It's one of those things."
KTFW features Mike Crow, host of the Country Gold Morning Show. It has also broadcast Fort Worth Brahmas hockey and Fort Worth Cats baseball games and football games for Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
M&M Broadcasters is a partnership of Moss and 8George Marti. The two started KTFW in 1990. KTFW's signal at 1460 AM is not included in the pending sale, Moss said.
KTFW is based in Glen Rose, and its antenna is west of Granbury.
The station reaches into 18 counties, including the Metroplex, west to Abilene and south to Waco, Moss said.
LKCM Radio bought KFWR/95.9 FM "The Ranch" in 2002. In October 2003, the station opened a studio in the Jett Building on Main Street in Sundance Square.
Officials with Luther King Capital Management could not be reached for comment on the pending sale.
M&M Broadcasters also owns KTON/940 AM in Belton, a country music station.
