Apple Refreshes iMac Line

Apple refreshed its iMac desktop line on Tuesday with new Intel Corp. processors.

The new iMac line will include new Thunderbolt ports that were introduced this year in its MacBook Pro laptop line.  This type of port is an input/output technology that supports both displays and devices.

According to Apple, the new type of port is 20 times faster than USB ports.

The new iMacs will also feature FaceTime HD, which is compatible with another Macintosh computer, iPhone or iPad.

Apple also switched its graphics supplier to AMD.  The new computers are equipped with an AMD Radeon HD graphics processor, which it said will provide 3-times faster graphics than the previous generation iMacs.

The company said on Tuesday that the new iMac is on sale online and at its retail stores for $1,199.
