National Semiconductor’s WEBENCH FPGA Power Architect Wins EDN Magazine Innovation Award

May 4, 2011

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: NSM) today announced that its WEBENCH® FPGA Power Architect was awarded an EDN Innovation Award in the Software Category at a ceremony on May 2 in San Jose, Calif. WEBENCH FPGA Power Architect is the industry’s first online design tool to model and optimize power supplies for FPGAs in minutes. Try out WEBENCH FPGA Power Architect here.

The EDN Innovation Awards program is now in its 21st year and proudly continues its tradition of recognizing rich talent. “National Semiconductor is a company that, along with a long history of achievements in components, was also an early innovator in the development of web-based software to assist engineers in developing applications,” EDN Technical Editor Mike Demler said.

Modern power supply systems, including advanced FPGAs, are complex to design, often incorporating multiple unique loads of different voltages. In addition to the required voltages and currents, each load may have specific limitations for ripple, noise filtering and separation of supplies, as well as start up constraints (soft start and sequencing). WEBENCH FPGA Power Architect delivers power supply designs that incorporate comprehensive power requirements published by the FPGA manufacturers, giving the designer confidence that their power supplies will meet these constraints while saving critical time in the process. Each WEBENCH design draws from a library of more than 34,000 components from 115 manufacturers. Watch a video demonstration at http://bit.ly/videoFPGA.
