New Community-Focused Website Helps to Connect Artists Locally and Promotes In-person Networking

Artists craving local community and critical networking opportunities at a local level are finding each other with the help of InYoHood.com. The site connects local artists through a unique community-building platform, allowing them to post samples of their work online and build relationships with other artists in their area.
Recognizing the power and benefits of live community, which is often lost in the online social media jungle, the creators of the website saw the need for an online tool to help artists discover each other and bring them together on a local level. The goal is to share inspiration and foster in-person connections and networking.
“We feel that the power of local connections between like-minded artists has been neglected,” says Dimi Arhontidis, one of the site’s creators. “InYoHood.com gives artists the ability to share their work, find inspiration, and spark networking opportunities down to the local level with real people they can meet and have a beer or cup of coffee with.”
Signing up for the site and uploading samples of work takes just a few minutes. Finding local artists is based on zip code. After entering a zip code, the site creates roughly a 50-mile radius (YoHood), introducing artists within that specific area. Graphic designers, web designers, UI/UX designers, illustrators, photographers, fashion designers, painters, street artists and others can upload images of their best or latest work to create their portfolio. Artists can display up to five pieces of their work at a time.
“We did not want the site to be another dumping ground for pictures,” Dimi says. “InYoHood.com encourages artists to frequent the site and update their portfolio as they create new art. The more the profile gets updated with new images, the more that work will be front and center in the image grid. Older work will keep getting pushed down the grid, so updating your portfolio often is a good way to be discovered.”
Once artists sign up, the site gives them the ability to choose their preferred method of contact, such as Twitter, Facebook or their own website. They can create wall posts and leave comments for other artists to see. The activity helps artists find each other and serves as a starting point for local networking opportunities. Currently the site supports only U.S. zip codes, but plans are in place to expand to other countries and regions such as Canada, Europe, South America and others.
