CHANTILLY, Va., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GTSI (R) Corp. a leading government information technology solutions aggregator, today announced that it won two blanket purchase agreements (BPA) off of its GSA Schedule from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Each BPA was awarded for one year with four option years and is valued at $25 million.
The first BPA provides rugged convertible tablet PCs in support of the USDA-wide advanced communications requirements for field, state, regional, and headquarters offices. The Panasonic Toughbook 18, MIL-STD-810F rugged design, was selected to not only handle USDA's weather-adverse field work but also offer integrated capabilities such as wireless wide area network and global positioning systems.
"This USDA rugged BPA award reflects the commitment and efforts of our long-standing partnership with GTSI as well as USDA's continued confidence in our products and support. We are proud and thankful for these strong business relationships," said Rance Poehler, President of Panasonic Computer Solutions Company.
The second BPA calls for GTSI to provide wireless infrastructure technology and ancillary services so that USDA offices worldwide will have a secure and reliable wireless networking platform. GTSI teamed with partner, Cisco Systems, Inc., to provide products and services on this BPA.
"As a leading provider of secure, intelligent networking solutions to the federal government, Cisco is pleased to work with GTSI to support USDA's mission," said Bruce Klein, Cisco Systems area vice president of U.S. federal sales. "With GTSI providing an end-to-end mobility solution that includes Cisco wireless technologies and support, USDA is well-positioned to achieve improvements in business processes, operating costs, and the delivery of services to citizens."
"We are proud to give the USDA first rate products and solutions to help agency personnel do their jobs more efficiently in remote locations," said Dendy Young, GTSI Chairman and CEO. "We have been seeing a growing need for rugged portable PCs along with wireless networking infrastructures to support them for some time. More and more we see mobile workers who need to access their applications and documents and communicate real-time. As the workforce -- both government and corporate -- becomes more mobile, these kinds of requirements become necessary to continued productivity. Our partners in these contract awards, Panasonic Computer Solutions Company and Cisco Systems, Inc., are the clear leaders in their fields and we are pleased that the USDA has chosen us to help make its mobile work environment both secure and more productive."
