Unisys Wins Contract From Lufthansa Systems for New Airline Solution

Posted on: Thursday, 11 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that it was awarded a contract by Lufthansa Systems, a leading IT service provider for both the airline and aviation industries worldwide. Under this agreement, Unisys will provide its Airline Core Systems Solutions (AirCore), which is designed to help airlines streamline reservation processes, reduce costs, enhance customer services and increase sales, to Lufthansa Systems for its more than 40 airline customers globally.

Unisys AirCore solutions will support Lufthansa Systems' Future Airline Core Environment (FACE) program. FACE will provide airlines with a broad spectrum of passenger services solutions, including expanded electronic distribution channels, which will enable a reduction in airlines' distribution costs. Airlines will also be able to swiftly respond to changing market conditions and provide services based on passengers' personal needs.

"Unisys and Lufthansa Systems have enjoyed a long and successful cooperative relationship. For our next-generation passenger airline solution FACE, we are delighted to welcome Unisys as our leading technology partner. In utilizing Unisys AirCore, Lufthansa Systems provides the industry with the most advanced solution designed to cover all airline business models from low cost to full alliance functionality," said Wolfgang F.W. Gohde, chief executive officer, Lufthansa Systems.

AirCore will be Lufthansa Systems' third-generation reservation solution from Unisys and the new agreement builds on the companies' 30-plus year relationship.

"This solution presents a new business model that will establish and deliver a new dimension of passenger service for the airline industry, helping to set Lufthansa Systems apart from everyone else," said Olivier Houri, president, Global Transportation, Unisys. "AirCore solutions are designed to focus on the traveler's buying and servicing needs, allowing airlines to treat passengers like customers - not numbers. AirCore also enables airlines to reduce costs through direct distribution such as internet sales and depend less on the traditional, more expensive sales channels."

AirCore is built on Unisys 3D Visible Enterprise strategy, which is designed to give clients greater visibility into the cause-and-effect relationships between strategy, process, applications and infrastructure. This allows companies to understand how future technology changes will likely affect its business. This level of visibility enables companies to move one step closer to being 3D Visible Enterprises - organizations able to see the impact of their business decisions before they are made.
