Officer.com to Stream 23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil May 13th; Renews Commitment to Fallen with 2012 Officer World Expo

May 11, 2011

WASHINGTON, May 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Last year, 152 federal, state and local law enforcement officers left their homes for the last time leaving behind wives, husbands, children, moms, dads, brothers and sisters. On May 13, 2011, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund honors the fallen with its 23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will deliver the keynote, which will be streamed live on Officer.com beginning at 8pm. The 2010 Webcast was viewed by more than a thousand registered users around the world Australia, Japan, Great Britain and Russia. Interested viewers can register today for the free live webcast of the 23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil honoring all of America’s fallen law enforcement heroes.

Following the keynote, Holder will lead the lighting of candles as the names of fallen officers are read aloud. This year, the 152 fallen officers’ names will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, the nation’s monument to law enforcement officers, which currently lists nearly 19,000 fallen since 1791. In addition to the 152 who died in 2010, an additional 164 officers’ names will also be added. These officers also died in the line of duty, but were never honored for their sacrifice.

“National Police Week is bittersweet,” says former Police Officer Frank Borelli who currently serves as Editor-in-Chief on Officer.com. Borelli connects with over 900,000 law enforcement professionals via Officer.com. “It is a time to renew old friendships and connect with fellow officers, but it is tempered by the fact that each year many will not be coming back. This year we’ve seen an increase of 40 percent. We’re continuing to look at ways to bring that number down to 0.”

Borelli and his team are moving forward on solutions. Officer.com will launch 2012 Officer World Expo at this year’s National Police Week.

“The number will change yearly based on our total fallen so that we remember them and let their ultimate sacrifice drive us to be better trained and better prepared,” added Borelli. “We’re absolutely committed to making that number 0.”
