3rd Palm Oil Summit meets on 18-19 July 2011 in Bali to deliberate on strategies for “ËœYield improvement and carbon management’, review solutions to escalating fertilizer costs and planning of palm oil expansion in suitable degraded land.

In view of escalating cost of fertiliser, thus the need for effective planning, 3rd Palm Oil Summit has secured Mr Armin Gfroerer-Kerstan, Director of PT Agrisoft-Systems Indonesia to share his views on `Nutrient Management and Effective, Sustainable Usage of Fertiliser’. Also addressing similar topic is Mr Dorjee Sun, CEO of Carbon Conservation Pty Ltd with a paper on `Organic Composting of Palm Oil Waste to Fertiliser’.
Included in the agenda, are sessions on sustainable palm oil plantation. Anne Rosenbarger, from World Resources Institute will examine new methodologies in her topic “POTICO (Palm Oil, Timber, Carbon Offsets) Project – Linking Expansion of Sustainable Palm Oil onto Highly Potential Degraded Land through Land Swaps”. Also slated to deliver strong messages that palm oil expansion projects need not cause deforestation if proper planning is conducted, will be Ketut Deddy, a Director with Sekala, with his presentation on the use of `Remote Sensing Technology to Map Oil Palm Development to avoid deforestation, land conflict and detect forest changes associated with carbon emissions .’
