Web Site Offers Fresher Data About Buffalo Region

Aug. 10--The Institute for Local Governance and Regional Growth has overhauled its Web site to provide fresher data about the region's economy, government and environment.
The institute at the University at Buffalo is the source of the seven-year State of the Region project. The effort collects more than 100 statistics on the region, from rates of smoking and obesity to air quality and government debt.
The new site updates data as figures become available, instead of in periodic reports. The site is at www.regional-institute.buffalo.edu/sotr.
"The new format taps the flexibility and real-time nature of the Web to better track regional performance," said a statement from Kathryn A. Foster, associate professor of urban and regional planning in UB's School of Architecture and Planning. Foster will become the director of the institute when current director John B. Sheffer II leaves Sept. 1.
