24% Of Americans Making Phone Calls Online

June 2, 2011

According to Pew Internet and American life Project, nearly a quarter of American adult Internet users have used the web to make phone calls.

Pew said that 5 percent of Internet users are going online to place phone calls every day.

The study, which was released on Monday, found that 8 percent of Internet users placed calls online in 2007, and 2 percent of Internet users were making calls each day.

Pew’s findings come from a national survey on landline and cell phone users between April 26 and May 22, 2011.

“At various points during the 2000s we asked similar questions and found that at most about a tenth of internet users had ever used the internet to place calls and the daily figure never rose above 1% of internet users,” Pew said in a statement.

The research company surveyed about 2,277 adults, and the online phone calling question was asked of 846 participants.
