Salazar’s Secret Weapons Pay off Heading into USA Track & Field

Middletown, PA (PRWEB) June 17, 2011
Internationally recognized as a pioneer in the world of elite running, Alberto Salazar has been called a genius”¦ and also a mad scientist. As he once explained, “If you want to achieve a high goal, you’re going to have to take some chances.” And his unconventional training methods have begun to pay off big for the Oregon Project athletes he coaches as they prep for the 2011 USA Track & Field Championships.
Earlier this month, Britain’s Mo Farah, one of Salazar’s stars, pulled out a stunning 26:46 10,000m at the Pre Classic. His time shattered the prior European record, which had stood for 12 years, giving rise to the question: What is Salazar’s latest training secret?
Without a doubt, Salazar has many arrows in his quiver, as he consistently adopts the latest training technologies as per his scientific advisors’ recommendations. Many of his secrets are kept under lock and key, but one powerful weapon he’s happy to discuss is the HydroWorx X80 underwater treadmill.
“The HydroWorx X80 is one of the most valuable pieces of equipment that I use for my athletes,” says Salazar. “With this unit, we are able to get in extra miles to be competitive at the world class level. It’s something that we use on a daily basis with our athletes”¦ it could be anywhere from 25%-33% of their mileage.”
Anson Flake, president, HydroWorx, explains the value of the X80 underwater treadmill for runners at every level. “While in the water, a person’s body weight is reduced 80-90%. For athletes of almost any age or ability, the X80 provides the freedom to log extra miles without adding undue stress to their bodies.”
The Oregon Project runners utilize a variety of HydroWorx products at their Portland, Oregon training center. Additionally, a “traveling” HydroWorx X80 portable underwater treadmill is being used at the Project’s high altitude training camp sites to enable Olympic-level athletes, like Farah and Galen Rupp to safely “max out” on their weekly mileage.
As the 2011 USA Track & Field Championships approach, Salazar has positioned each elite runner under his tutelage to perform at the level Farah showed at the Pre Classic. Currently, all American Oregon Project runners are scheduled to compete at the Championships from June 23-26 in Eugene, Oregon’s Hayward Field.
HydroWorx, based in Middletown, Pennsylvania, offers a wide range of underwater treadmill pools, underwater treadmills, and peripheral products and services. Every day, over 15,000 athletes and patients use HydroWorx technology to recover from injuries and health conditions.
