Chinese firm installs new optic fiber communication system in Angola
LUANDA, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese firm Shanghai Belt has engaged in installing a new optic fiber communication system in Angola, Angolan news agency Angop reported on Thursday.
The project is in a stage of excavation of a ditch for the cables in an extension of 180 km, along the road joining the southern cities of Lubango (Hula province) and Namibe.
The administrator of the Angolan firm Angola Telecom, Rui Filomeno, did not disclose the cost of the project, but indicated that the budget for the whole program of restructuring the national telephonic network might be estimated at around 10 million US dollars, financed by the Angolan government.
The optic fiber communication project will reach the Namibe Province in the coming months before being extended next year to the whole southern region of Angola.
The restructuring program also includes the installing of digital stations in the southern parts of the country, replacing cables, installing cell-phone networks and telephone booths.
