New HotDocs 10.1 Facilitates Cloud Development and Third-Party Integrations
Latest software release enhances Web Services API and adds APIs for browser-based-interview customization and file-dependency tracking

HotDocs Corporation, the global leader in automated document generation technology, today announced the release of HotDocs 10.1, the latest version of its award-winning software suite. Among its many enhancements is a substantially improved web services API, a key advancement that facilitates HotDocs-based, private-cloud development as well as integrations into vertical SaaS applications. Also included in the release are significant enhancements to other APIs, one to allow third-party customization of interviews generated by HotDocs Server and one for tracking all files that a HotDocs template depends on. These enhanced APIs offer substantially more flexibility to third-party system integrators.
“In the past, accessing HotDocs Server via the Web Services API required a sometimes-lengthy sequence of programming calls,” commented Lowell Stewart, the company’s Head of Software Development. “In 10.1, an engineer can accomplish with a single call what once took several calls. Aside from obvious time savings, this enhancement makes server load balancing dramatically easier, which appeals to virtually all of our large customers.”
In addition to web services functionality, HotDocs 10.1 includes an enhanced programmer interface that facilitates modification of HotDocs Server interviews. “In previous versions,” explained Stewart, “customers who weren’t happy with the standard HotDocs toolbar (visible in all interviews generated by HotDocs Server) had limited options for customizing it. Some resorted to custom modifications that ultimately made adopting new versions of HotDocs a challenge. The enhanced 10.1 API allows customers to modify the toolbar with much more flexibility and without worrying about forward compatibility.”
Another significant improvement in 10.1 is the Dependency API, which allows developers to know which files a particular HotDocs template depends on. For example, a template file might depend on one or more component files, other inserted template files, graphic files, etc. “If any of these collateral files is missing, a template wouldn’t work properly,” points out Stewart. “And there are many circumstances under which a third-party developer may want to track dependency, the most obvious being in regard to document management systems.” Stewart added that “the Dependency API allows third-party developers to do the type of system integration work that could previously be performed only by HotDocs Corporation’s own engineering staff.”
An upgrade to version 10.1 is free to existing HotDocs 10 users and is available at http://hotdocs.com/Downloads-Updates.aspx.
