Juniper Networks Enhances and Extends High-End Security Portfolio
Posted on: Monday, 15 August 2005, 09:00 CDT
Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR) today announced increased performance and scalability to its high-end security portfolio with two new hardware modules for the Juniper Networks NetScreen-5000 Series firewall and virtual private network (VPN) systems. These new modular enhancements -- the 8G2 and 2XGE Secure Port Modules -- provide the NetScreen-5000 Series firewall/VPN systems with advanced networking features and significantly increased performance to create the ideal security platform for large enterprise, carrier and data center networks.
With the release of the second generation Security Port Modules, Juniper Networks' NetScreen-5000 Series firewall/VPN delivers up to 30 gigabytes per second high-end firewall and 15 gigabytes per second VPN throughput. The new Secure Port Modules allow organizations to securely implement bandwidth intensive and latency sensitive technologies including Voice-over-IP (VoIP), real-time streaming technology and data replication services, without adversely affecting the integrity or performance throughput of their network. Further, these hardware pluggable modules allow existing NetScreen-5000 Series customers to easily upgrade their firewall/VPN deployments while protecting the investment they've already made in their infrastructure.
Delivering on the Enterprise Infranet framework, Juniper Networks' latest hardware modules offer customers greater levels of delivery control by providing better network performance, scalability and reliability for VoIP and other emerging technologies. With several additional networking enhancements, the new secure port modules offer Jumbo Frame support, AES hardware support and industry-leading small packets per second performance. Customers with Jumbo Frame support can improve network traffic management and throughput by allowing the sending and receiving of Jumbo Frame size packets -- which are up to six times the size of standard Ethernet packets.
"We're really focused on delivering a solution that is more secure, more reliable, and above all meets the performance requirements for our multi-site customer networks," said Amanda Cecconi, vice president, Marketing at Cybera. "With the new 5000 Series 8G2 and 2XGE upgrade modules, our NetScreen-5000 Series firewall/VPN deployment easily scales to the increasing demands of the largest enterprise network -- especially where Gigabit and 10-Gigabit Ethernet interfaces are deployed."
Both modules incorporate GigaScreen3 ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) that offload CPU intensive functions, such as transferring large multimedia and data files across a network, for improved packet processing while increasing high-end firewall performance and stability. For financial institutions and government agencies that require the highest levels of data encryption and fault-tolerant operation, the new 8G2 and 2XGE modules provide up to 15Gbps ASIC-accelerated VPN throughput with 3DES or AES encryption standards. For deployment flexibility and ease-of-network integration, the 8G2 Secure Port Module provides eight 1-Gigabit Ethernet mini-GBIC Interfaces, while the 2XGE offers two 10-Gigabit Ethernet XFP interfaces.
"High capacity, low latency and superior performance are primary requirements for large enterprises and carriers delivering emerging technologies, like VoIP and video-on-demand, using their existing network infrastructure," said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "Security products can't be the bottleneck, even as some of these customers begin moving real-time latency sensitive data at multi-gigabit speeds. These enhancements to the NetScreen-5000 Series enable Juniper to secure emerging applications for the largest and most innovative IT organizations."
"The new modular enhancements to the NetScreen-5000 Series firewall/VPN system demonstrate Juniper Networks continued commitment to provide flexible, best-in-class performance in a secure and assured security solution for high-performance environments," said Lee Klarich, director, product management of Juniper Networks' Security Products Group.
