Yahoo! Health Launches New Blogging Content, Featuring Health Experts and Celebrities

Posted on: Monday, 15 August 2005, 09:00 CDT

Yahoo! Health (http://health.yahoo.com), a comprehensive health information web site, today announced the launch of Health Blogs, a new section within the site that enables users to read blog postings from health experts, post comments and interact with other users. Some of the initial topics covered within Health Blogs include nutrition, asthma, allergies, yoga, sex and depression.

To coincide with this new expert content, the site also launched "Blog for Hope," a special month-long program featuring health-related blog postings from celebrities, athletes, politicians and other well-known personalities. "Blog for Hope" begins today and will continue through September 15.

"Blog for Hope" will enable Yahoo! Health users to read and comment on the celebrity blog posts, which will focus on a number of health-related issues. The program will also enable users to easily donate to the American Cancer Society via links throughout the "Blog for Hope" content area.

"Our goal is to provide health consumers with the most dynamic and informative content on the Internet, and these two new blogging programs are great examples," said Shawn Hardin, vice president of content operations for the Yahoo! Media Group. "Whether reading personal stories from well-known survivors or interacting with actual health experts, blogging provides a powerful community experience for users looking for detailed health information and advice."

"In 'Blog for Hope,' Yahoo! has created an amazing forum for high profile people to share personal experiences regarding health-related issues," said Dr. Deepak Chopra. "Healthcare is a very personal topic, and the Internet -- and blogging specifically -- provides an environment where people looking for health information can communicate and share information easily. The advantage of going to a health blog is that people find a source of solace, nurturing and sharing, and gain strength and hope from it."

"Blog for Hope" will feature approximately one blog per week over the course of the month-long program from each of the celebrities involved. The full list of participants includes:

-- Sen. Hillary Clinton -- Tom Green, Actor/Comedian -- Sam Donaldson, News Anchor -- Jill Eikenberry, Actress -- Peggy Fleming, Figure Skater -- Rep. Deborah Pryce -- Deepak Chopra, Doctor -- Rep. Sue Myrick -- Fran Drescher, Actress -- Rep. Chris Cannon
