KROHNE Presents on Virtual Reference for Magmeters at ChemInnovation

August 5, 2011

Eliminates the need for grounding rings.

Peabody, MA (PRWEB) August 04, 2011

KROHNE, Inc., a global technology leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of accurate, reliable and cost effective measuring instruments for the process industries, announces that Ralf Haut, KROHNE’s chemical industry manager from Duisburg, Germany, is presenting at the 2nd Annual ChemInnovations Conference & Expo 2011, to be held September 13-15, 2011 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX. Mr. Haut’s session, “Virtual Reference for Electromagnetic Flowmeters,” will be in Session 5B: Mechanical Integrity and Reliability, to be presented on Tuesday, September 13th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Virtual reference, also called virtual grounding, allows electromagnetic flowmeters (EMFs) to be installed in any type of pipeline without grounding rings or electrodes. Unique to KROHNE’s IFC300 converter, it employs a patented method to compensate for the potential of the ungrounded liquid resulting in a reference potential for signal processing. The virtual reference method can be used in flow tubes with a minimum diameter of 3/8 inch and a fluid conductivity of â“°¥200 µS/cm.

According to Mr. Haut, virtual reference has several advantages over traditional grounding methods. “First of all, no additional grounding tools that come in contact with the product are necessary,” said Mr. Haut. “Secondly, eliminating grounding rings makes EMF installation simpler, which results in overall lower costs.”

Mr. Haut will be presenting the details of this new technology and several specific installations will be discussed to highlight its advantages in practical applications.
