Global Crossing Describes Internet Service Provider Role in Cybersecurity at GFIRST Conference
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Global Crossing (NASDAQ: GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that Michael Miller, vice president of the company’s Federal Sector, will present at the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team’s (US-CERT’s) GFIRST Conference on Thursday, August 11, at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
The annual GFIRST Conference instructs non-technical, public- and private-sector leaders in the fundamentals of cybersecurity and incident response. This year, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with more than 70 Information Technology exhibitors who provide cutting-edge solutions and technology, as well as to participate in six days of training, presentations and plenary sessions.
“Cybersecurity continues to be a complex problem that needs to be addressed throughout the entire communication path,” said Miller. “Internet Service Providers, or ISPs, have a unique role in the protection of this path based on their centrality to the Internet, and their connections to downstream ISPs, enterprises or consumers.”
Miller’s presentation, “Transforming the Internet Service Provider’s Role in Cybersecurity,” will explain how, by deploying cybersecurity at the ISP level, a new class of “Assured” services can be offered.
“This new class of ‘Assured’ services will improve the level of protection for customers,” Miller continued. “In addition, advanced perimeter security measures can be simplified by deploying cybersecurity within the Internet Service Provider cloud.”
GFIRST is a group of technical and tactical practitioners from incident response and security response teams responsible for securing government information technology systems and providing private sector support. GFIRST members work together to understand and handle computer security incidents and to encourage proactive and preventative security practices across government agencies. GFIRST promotes cooperation among the full range of federal, state and local agencies, including defense, civilian, intelligence, and law enforcement.
