DALLAS, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 8, 2003--Commonwealth Telephone Company, a business unit of Dallas, PA-based Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Inc. ("CTE") (Nasdaq: CTCO), announced today that the company was again identified by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ("PUC"), in its recently released 2002 annual report, "Utility Consumer Activities Report and Evaluation," as having the lowest justified complaint rate out of the six companies with the largest local exchange carrier operations in Pennsylvania - including Alltel Pennsylvania, Inc., MCI Local, United Telephone Company of Pennsylvania d/b/a Sprint, Verizon North, Inc. (formerly GTE North, Inc.), and Verizon Pennsylvania, Inc. (formerly Bell Atlantic-Pennsylvania, Inc.). Commonwealth Telephone Company has received this distinction in twelve of the last fourteen years, including eight of the past nine years.
"I am pleased to recognize and commend the outstanding customer service of Commonwealth Telephone Company," said Michael J. Mahoney, president and CEO of CTE (parent company of Commonwealth Telephone Company). "It is a remarkable achievement to be identified as best in customer responsiveness twelve times over the past fourteen years, and it has been accomplished only through the fervent dedication and commitment that our Commonwealth Telephone Company employees exhibit to customers on a daily basis.
"The tradition of customer service excellence, which pervades throughout all of CTE's family of businesses, began more than a century ago in rural Pennsylvania, and continues today to be the standard for our ongoing operations and the hallmark of our success," continued Mahoney. "It is this unwavering focus on customer satisfaction that has enabled us to become one of the leading rural local exchange carriers in the industry," stated Mahoney.
The Pennsylvania PUC annually produces this report, which measures customer service performance by all major utilities - including electrical, gas, water and telephone - in an effort to inform consumers on how well utilities are meeting their needs. Utility performance is based on residential consumer complaint rates, response time to these complaints, and other measurements.
