OCEANPORT, N.J. & SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 2003--
CommVault Galaxy's Backup and Recovery Software Combined with
Hitachi ShadowImage and TrueCopy to Eliminate Backup Windows,
Maximize Data Protection and Availability
CommVault(R) Systems, Inc., a provider of unified enterprise data management solutions, and Hitachi Data Systems, a leader in enterprise storage and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today announced joint non-disruptive backup solutions. The solutions combine award-winning CommVault(R) Galaxy(TM) backup and recovery software with Hitachi ShadowImage(TM) and Hitachi TrueCopy(TM) software. Leveraging the power of Hitachi storage systems, customers can use Galaxy software to backup data from a ShadowImage or TrueCopy mirror. As a result, customers maximize their ability to protect critical applications and data with a seamless, high performance, zero-impact and user-friendly solution.
"From a customer perspective, we are excited to see the continued amalgamation of hardware and software solution providers," said Jay McConnell, director, Information Technology, Astral Television Networks. "By partnering with Hitachi Data Systems and CommVault Systems, we have achieved our milestone of deploying one of the highest performing and most cost-effective backup and recovery SAN solutions out there."
CommVault Galaxy backup and recovery software is a four-time storage industry award winner that protects and manages data in heterogeneous enterprises. Joint customers now have more options to protect and manage data with the integration of Hitachi and CommVault software. With Hitachi ShadowImage software, customers can replicate information within the Lightning 9900(TM) V Series storage systems without disrupting operations or overall performance levels. These copies can then be used for application testing, data warehousing/data mining, local backup, or remote replication. Hitachi TrueCopy software replicates information between systems within the Lightning 9900 V Series family, or between Thunder 9580(TM)V and/or Thunder 9570(TM)V systems locally or to remote locations in distributed centers anywhere in the world, with minimum performance impact.
The combined software and hardware solution, to be available for Microsoft Windows and Sun Solaris platforms, benefits customers who must do backups to tape or disk (in addition to replication). It significantly reduces the backup window by allowing customers to perform "non-disruptive backups" in which the data backup process does not impact production servers and volumes. This solution can be used locally or at remote sites. The integration of CommVault Galaxy and Hitachi eCopy will be delivered in the near future, delivering serverless backup capabilities.
"CommVault is pleased to work with partners, such as Hitachi Data Systems, to provide non-disruptive backup options for our customers," said Dave West, vice president of business development, CommVault Systems. "With this solution, customers are able to maximize their data availability by eliminating the backup window -- a crucial request we've heard time and time again. Furthermore, when customers experience inevitable environmental growth or changes, they can be confident that this solution will scale seamlessly."
"Today's announcement is another validation of our commitment to provide customers with truly integrated, best-of-breed storage solutions. Our customers are in industries where 24/7 data and application availability is a must," said Scott Genereux, vice president, Global Marketing and Business Development, Hitachi Data Systems. "This joint solution with CommVault meets these needs by allowing customers to protect their data without interrupting operations."
