Migraine treatment known as the StimPath procedure was featured on Top Docs as a treatment to help individuals who suffer from debilitating headache pain.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 13, 2011

Ascendant Neuro announced that the StimPath procedure, an innovative migraine treatment for people who suffer from debilitating headache pain, was featured on the July 31 edition of Top Docs of DFW, the popular Sunday morning program on KDAF-TV, Channel 33. “What we’ve developed is a procedure using an implanted neurostimulator for control of severe migraine pain,” says Dr. Kenneth Reed, one of the inventors of the StimPath procedure.

Also featured in the report is Kimberly Rutherford, a young woman who couldn’t attend college or hold a job because of severe migraine pain. “I had been receiving treatment for migraines for about eight years-starting from when I was about 12 years old,” she says. “I really tried everything. I tried acupuncture, message therapy and biofeedback. And finally, the headaches got to where I had to leave school. They really were controlling my life.”

Rutherford’s life changed dramatically when she met Dr. Reed and underwent the StimPath procedure. Dr. Reed and his colleague, Kelly Will, M.D., were recently awarded the prestigious Cephalalgia Award from the International Headache Society for their groundbreaking research regarding the revolutionary migraine treatment. During the procedure, small wires are implanted under the skin so they are undetectable. Although they can’t be seen, these wires deliver electrical impulses-or neurostimulation-to the occipital and supraorbital nerves that cause severe headache pain. “You can think about it like a small pacemaker for the heart,” says Dr. Reed. “It’s meant to stop headache pain.”

The StimPath procedure has successfully eliminated Rutherford’s pain. “I remember waking up with tears in my eyes because the pain was finally gone,” she says. Read more about Kimberly’s success story now that she doesn’t have to live with chronic migraines.
