New Release of Vintela Authentication Services Includes Comprehensive Unix/Linux Policy-based Management Components
Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, today introduced a new version of Vintela Authentication Services, which now features an enhanced set of capabilities including those previously offered in Vintela Group Policy, which will no longer be available as a separate product. As a single product, Vintela Authentication Services with Group Policy components allows Unix and Linux users and systems to become "full citizens" in Windows Active Directory, which provides single-sign on and unified administration benefits across the heterogeneous enterprise.
"When Vintela introduced Vintela Group Policy, nearly a year ago, it broke new ground by allowing cross-platform policy-based user management using Active Directory Group Policy," said Jackson Shaw, vice president, Cross-Platform Integration, Quest Software. "Now that Vintela is part of Quest, we've built the Group Policy components into Vintela Authentication Services, which is evidence that the continuing enhancement of these products is moving forward on schedule. Quest has enthusiastically embraced a strategy of providing cross-platform infrastructure management."
New features in Vintela Authentication Services include:
-- Additional platform support -- In addition to previously available support for the AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, Red Hat Linux and SuSE Linux platforms, Vintela Authentication Services now supports Solaris 10 and Linux on the AMD 64 and Intel EM64T 64-bit processors.
-- Pre-packaged policy management -- In addition to the useful sudo and cron policies available previously, Vintela Authentication Services now includes a number of new policies, including script policies, file distribution policies, Syslog policies and access control policies.
-- GPO editing through Unix interface -- Vintela Authentication Services preserves the Unix experience by allowing Unix administrators to edit Group Policy Objects from within the Unix client.
"Technology is a competitive advantage for us, and we look to increase efficiency through centralized systems management," said Kirk Patten, IT director at RotaDyne, the world's largest manufacturer of rollers and related products for industrial and printing applications. "We wanted to use Active Directory to provide the identity and authentication management infrastructure for our Windows systems and for our 30 distributed AIX servers. Vintela Authentication Services and Vintela Group Policy worked out-of-the box and gave us what we needed."
Pricing and Availability
North American pricing for Vintela Authentication Services with the Group Policy component begins at $325 U.S. per server and $45 U.S. per user. To learn more about Quest's products for cross-platform integration, visit www.vintela.com.
