Tideworks Technology(R) Inc., a leading provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions, has been selected by Stevedoring Services LTD. (SSL) to provide terminal operations solutions and professional IT services for managing container activities at their Hamilton Docks operation in Bermuda. With Tideworks' container terminal management suite, SSL aims to enhance terminal productivity and customer service, as well as reduce operating costs.
"Our deployment of Tideworks' terminal operating solutions is an important step in automating our port system with state-of-the-art technology that's easy to use and cost effective," said Mervyn O. L. Grant, project manager, Stevedoring Services LTD. "Our customers will be delighted with the improved service they receive as a result of greater access to real-time information and more streamlined processes."
Technology for Greater Control, Efficiencies
SSL currently processes approximately 40,000 container lifts per year. The company will begin utilizing Tideworks' container terminal management suite in the first quarter of 2006. Planned for deployment are the following components:
-- Mainsail Terminal Management System(R): Mainsail provides real-time inventory management, flexible workflow tools, and comprehensive integration with other business-critical systems and partners. The system provides terminal operators with complete visibility and control of cargo at the gate, in the yard, and on vessels or rail cars, and is designed to provide faster, more efficient cargo processing.
-- Spinnaker Planning Management System(R): Spinnaker provides terminal operators with fully-integrated vessel, berth, yard, and rail planning tools in one workspace. Spinnaker's intuitive user interface is designed to maximize the efficiency of terminal operations, increasing cargo volume and reduce vessel turn time.
-- Forecast(TM): Forecast helps terminals communicate faster and easier with trucking companies, shippers, consignees, brokers, and other parties. The system provides online tracking of cargo and real-time information such as import container availability, vessel schedules, activity reports, and booking statuses. Forecast aims to provide the terminal with enhanced customer service, faster gate turn times and reduced customer service costs.
In addition, as part of the SSL implementation project Tideworks will develop an interface between the Mainsail Terminal Management System and Bermuda Customs, which currently utilize paper-intensive, manual processes.
"We are very pleased to have been selected by SSL to be their IT partner on this exciting project," said Michael Schwank, president, Tideworks Technology. "We look forward to the deployment at Hamilton Docks and to demonstrating Tideworks' ability to deliver cost-effective solutions that are flexible and scalable enough to meet the needs of terminals of all sizes, from the small and mid-sized terminals to the mega facilities."
