Aug. 16--Agilent Technologies Inc.'s semiconductor manufacturing plant in Fort Collins will change hands as part of a larger sale, the company said Monday.
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Silver Lake Partners have agreed to pay $2.66 billion for Agilent's semiconductor operations, which include the plant in Fort Collins.
The Fort Collins plant, which makes chips for cellular phones and more specialized products, employs 620 people, with another 160 employees working for other business units.
"All of the employees working at the time of the (sale) close will be offered jobs with the new company," said James Stewart, general manager of the Fort Collins site.
The deal is expected to be done by Oct. 31. Plans are underway to relocate workers not affiliated with semiconductor manufacturing at the site.
Additionally, Agilent said it will spin off two business units, "System on Chip" and "Memory Test" next year. Those two units employ about 165 people locally, primarily in Loveland, where the company employs 660 workers.
Agilent also employs about 475 people in a field sales office in Englewood and another 775 in Colorado Springs.
The Colorado Springs workers include testing and measurement employees and workers providing information technology and financial services support.
Agilent said it would reduce 1,300 positions in global infrastructure through attrition, transfers and layoffs. The effect in Colorado isn't known.
Agilent's Colorado workforce has suffered heavy losses, with 2,000 workers losing their jobs in the state between 2001 and 2003.
