Media in China short of professional managers
BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — China’s booming media sector is currently short of professional managers as press and publishing companies have about 3,000 vacant positions, including managers in sales, distribution, production and marketing.
The Alliance-China Job Search databank shows that in July, the media wanted to recruit 3,844 professionals, while the advertising industry’s demands stood at 3,416.
According to Beijing Daily Messenger, China has more than 5,000 media units with a total staff of 550,000. But less than one percent of them are professional managers.
Currently, most media managers used to work as journalists, so that they lack of expertise in media and advertising management, said Li Lan, director of the editing board of the Blue Paper on Radio and Television Industries, under the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.
Fierce market competition has forced media companies to recruit professional managers with the help of head-hunting firms, Li said.
