Dell'Oro Group Reports Optical Market Grows 10 Percent in 2Q05; Rebound in North America Drives Solid Growth

According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, in the second quarter of 2005, worldwide optical transport equipment revenue grew 10 percent verses the first quarter and 28 percent versus the same quarter a year ago. Optical sales in North America continued to expand as service providers increased capital spending for optical infrastructure. With 19 percent growth, this quarter is the third consecutive quarter of sequential sales growth in North America.
"It looks like the tide has turned, and the optical market is on the upswing again. The last time there was strong sequential growth in the optical market was in 2000," said Jimmy Yu, Senior Analyst for Optical Transport Research at Dell'Oro Group. "With the climate for optical equipment improving in both North America and EMEA, Dell'Oro Group now forecasts that the optical market will grow 18 percent in 2005."
