Protegrity Expands Data Security Solution With Acquisition of Kavado

Posted on: Thursday, 18 August 2005, 12:00 CDT

STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Protegrity Corporation, the leader in Data Security Management(TM) solutions, announced today the acquisition of Kavado, a Stamford-based provider of web application security products. The acquisition complements Protegrity's Secure.Data, recognized by Forrester as the strongest offering available for database encryption and security management, with robust application security and advanced alerting. The combined offering gives customers a solution for end-to-end security with centralized, enterprise-wide policy management, monitoring, and reporting.

"Today, corporations are faced with selecting and managing multiple point products, which is inefficient and ineffective," said Gordon Rapkin, Protegrity president and CEO. "The acquisition of Kavado now gives us the ability to protect sensitive data wherever it resides -- in applications, databases, backups, and storage -- and across any technology infrastructure. By protecting data from acquisition to deletion, we can help companies more efficiently meet regulatory requirements and reduce the escalating legal and financial risks associated with security breaches."

The Kavado products protect web applications -- whether off-the-shelf or custom developed -- from external and internal threats as well as internal abuses of authority. The combined company has nearly 300 customers across all vertical markets. Protegrity will continue to support all current products.

According to Rapkin, Protegrity plans to integrate Kavado and Protegrity products, focusing in particular on the integration of database security with threat management. For customers, the integration will bring a unified environment for comprehensive application control, management reporting, and security alerts.

"Because they are integral to business processes and have direct impact on revenue, applications are at the heart of a business. However, application security has long been a black hole," said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group. "This acquisition creates a solution that meets the business need for comprehensive data protection at all times, no matter where it's located. Protegrity's business-focused approach is much more strategic than available point solutions."

"We see this acquisition as a positive for our customers," said Stefan Strobel, CEO of cirosec GmbH, a German-based security consulting company, and author of Firewalls and IT Security. "Many of our customers have complex security issues. While Kavado products addressed application security, it was difficult to find good products for database security. This acquisition meets the market need for a broader security solution." A Kavado reseller partner since 2002, cirosec specializes in working with organizations with complex security requirements.
