Top officials of the Detroit Regional Chamber, The Memphis Regional Chamber (TN) and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce (MN) also expressed their complete confidence in NWA's ability to continue safe and uninterrupted service in the event of a walkout.
"Northwest's hubs in our three communities are a critical component of our overall economic infrastructure," said Richard E. Blouse Jr., CCE, president and CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber. "These hubs are truly our lifeline, and we're 100 percent behind Northwest Airlines."
Detroit Metro Airport brings a $14.2 million daily economic impact to the Detroit Region, and Northwest Airlines is Detroit Metro Airport's largest carrier.
"In the event of a strike, Northwest is prepared to implement contingency plans that will ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers," said Blouse. "I'm flying with Northwest myself this weekend, and I encourage other passengers not to change their plans if a walkout occurs."
The Detroit Regional Chamber is the leading business organization in Southeast Michigan and the largest chamber of commerce in the country with more than 21,000 members. The Chamber's mission -- to lead business growth and member success -- is carried out through business attraction efforts, public policy advocacy, strategic partnerships and quality products and services for members.
