Helios Plane Diverted to Different Airport

A Helios Airways jetliner flying from Cyprus to London diverted to an alternative airport Friday because of bad weather and a pilot's report of trouble.
On Sunday, another Helios plane crashed into a mountainside near Athens, killing 121 passengers and crew.
The Times of London reports Flight ZU400 landed safely at Stansted Airport outside of London after the diversion from Luton, about 30 miles away.
The pilot thought he had a flaps problem but the aircraft landed all right, a Stansted spokeswoman told the newspaper.
The Times said that a Cypriot travel agent who said he had been told by Helios that the plane was diverted because of heavy rain at Luton and because Stansted is larger.
In a similar incident last Saturday, the pilot of a Helios plane approaching Birmingham radioed air traffic controllers about flaps problems. That plane also landed safely.
The investigation of the Greek crash appears to have been focusing on possible decompression problems that could have made the pilots unconscious.
