Dell unveils wireless enabled handheld computers
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) - The world's leading computer maker Dell Inc. on Wednesday introduced three new handheld computers (PDA), including one with integrated wireless capability.
The new Axim X3 PDAs are 28 percent lighter and 17 percent thinner than Dell's current Axim X5 PDAs and come with a 3.5-inch transflective TFT color display and removable primary batteries, Dell said.
Two of the three Axim X3 models are powered by the Intel Xscale processor at 400MHz and offer 64MB of SDRAM and 64MB of StrataFlash ROM. A lower end Axim X3 has an Intel Xscale 300MHz processor, 32MB of SDRAM and 32MB of Flash ROM.
The Axim X3 are installed with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC, including Pocket versions of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, Internet Explorer, MSN Messenger, Windows Media Player.
Dell priced the Axim X3i with integrated Wi-Fi 802.11b at 379 US dollars and two non-wireless Axim X3 configurations at 329 dollars and 229 dollars respectively.
Dell said it will continue to offer its popular Axim X5 PDAs, which has elevated company to the number 2 Pocket PC handheld device supplier both worldwide and in the US in less than a year.
