American Ups Fuel Surcharge on International Flights
August 20, 2005
American Airlines has raised a round-trip surcharge on international flights by $20 to help cover increased fuel costs.
The increase brings American’s fuel surcharge on trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific flights to $55 each way, spokesman Tim Smith told Bloomberg News on Tuesday.
Jet fuel for immediate delivery in New York harbor has risen 57 percent this year to $1.95 a gallon.
The $10 each-way increase, which is effective immediately, follows a June 15 increase by the same amount on flights between the United States and Europe.
“Our fuel costs have skyrocketed,” Smith said.
